This year's 11 th Annual Diversity Law Student reception - hosted by King Hall alum Judge Shama Mesiwala ’98 - was a great success.

More than 75 UC Davis law students attended the reception on September 15 at Judge Mesiwala's home, as well as several faculty and staff members. Judge Mesiwala is a dedicated King Hall alum and co-founder of the South Asian Bar Association (SABA) of Sacramento. And, one of our recent alums, Rabia Reed ’17, is now serving on the SABA board.

In addition to speaking with our wonderful alums and current law students, I had the opportunity to talk with several judges from various state courts in California, as well as attorneys in the California Solicitor General’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California.

Professors Alan Brownstein, Clay Tanaka, Irene Joe, Menesh Patel, and Craig Compton, Assistant Dean of Career Services, also enjoyed the reception.

The event brought together our diverse student body with leaders practicing in all areas of the legal field. Our students took advantage of the opportunity and spent the beautiful afternoon networking with judges and attorneys.

We are proud as a law school to sponsor this event. I also want to especially thank Judge Mesiwala for opening her home to host this reception and the many judges and attorneys who attended to meet with our students.
