The La Raza Lawyers Charitable Foundation, working in conjunction with the Santa Clara County La Raza Lawyers Association is pleased to announce the availability of the 2019 Law Student Scholarship Application. Since 1998, these grants have been awarded to Bay Area law students whose contributions to and activities in the community have encouraged and advanced the social, cultural, economic and legal equality of the underserved and underprivileged, especially those in the Latino/a community. Up to four scholarship grants in the amount of $5,000.00 will be awarded. Additional smaller scholarships may be awarded depending on available funds. Your application makes you eligible for all scholarships and any other awards.


The scholarship grants are available to law students who:

1. Are from the Bay Area (The Foundation will decide on a case-by-case basis if student meets this criterion); -OR- Attend law school at Santa Clara University, Lincoln Law School, UC Berkeley, the Monterey College of Law, the University of San Francisco, UC Hastings, Stanford, Golden Gate University, UC Davis, or McGeorge;

2. Are a PRESENTLY enrolled law student (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year);

3. Demonstrate a commitment to legal equality of the underserved and underprivileged, as evidenced by community and extracurricular activities;

4. Demonstrate a financial need.

The Foundation may also consider other compelling criteria.


The scholarship grants may be used to assist with living expenses, tuition, books, bar exam course expenses or anything else you may need to further your legal education.


The awards will be given at the 22nd Annual Scholarship Dinner on Friday, October 18, 2018 at the San Jose Marriott hotel in downtown San Jose. You will be notified on or before October 1, 2019 if you have been selected as a recipient. You must be present at the Scholarship Dinner to be eligible for your award. Additionally, recipients must provide a short biography and current photo for use in the Dinner Program no later than Friday, October 4, 2019.
