Boies Schiller Flexner LLP (“Boies Schiller") believes in diversity in the legal profession. As a litigation firm that counts numerous former federal court law clerks among its attorney ranks, Boies Schiller recognizes the particular importance of federal law clerk diversity. As part of its commitment to diversity in the legal profession, and its ongoing efforts to recruit and retain attorneys of diverse backgrounds, Boies Schiller is proud to announce its 1L Diversity Summer Fellowship for 2019 in its Los Angeles office.
The Fellow will spend six to eight weeks in Boies Schiller' Los Angeles office observing and learning about the practice of law at one of the country' premiere litigation firms praised for its effectiveness and efficiency and for excellence in its civil and white-collar criminal defense practices. The Fellow will have opportunities to write memoranda, draft pleadings, and observe court proceedings, depositions, and client meetings. Boies Schiller will also assist the Fellow in developing a portfolio for a judicial clerkship—learning more about various chambers across the country; developing a writing sample; and preparing for interviews with judges.
The Fellow is encouraged to spend a minimum of six weeks with Boies Schiller and may stay a maximum of eight weeks. The schedule is flexible to permit the Fellow to pursue another summer opportunity with another employer in addition to this Fellowship. Fellows will be paid a weekly salary of $3,000. The Fellowship does not result in any offer of employment.
Boies Schiller invites exceptional law students in their first year of law school who are interested in pursuing a judicial clerkship after graduation (whether immediately after graduation or after a year or two of work experience) to apply. Applications must include (1) a résumé; (2) a law school transcript showing first semester grades; (3) an undergraduate transcript; (4) a 500-word personal statement describing your background and your interest in the Fellowship; (5) a writing sample not to exceed ten pages; and (6) contact information for one reference who can comment meaningfully on your legal skills. Applications must be emailed or postmarked no later than Friday, February 1, 2019.
