Public Defender Olson discusses racial disparities in Yolo County

Yolo County Public Defender Tracie Olson spoke on Monday, Jan. 25, as part of UC Davis Law’s ongoing Racial Justice Speaker Series. The online event drew more than 150 people.

Olson discussed, among other topics, the overrepresentation of Black and Latino people in Yolo County’s criminal justice system; efforts by her office and other county agencies to combat racial inequities; and the county Board of Supervisors’ declaration in 2020 that racism is a public health crisis.

Spanning the 2020-21 academic year, the Racial Justice Speaker Series has gathered leading scholars, practitioners and policy makers to engage in meaningful conversation about some of the most urgent issues facing our society today. Next up in the series will be a talk by Georgetown Law Professor Paul Butler on March 3.
