Threat of ICE raids does 'real damage to communities,' Dean Johnson tells Mercury News

The prospect of ICE raids makes people "fearful of going to work, fearful of going to school" and does "real damage to communities," Dean Kevin Johnson told the San Jose Mercury News in a story headlined “Threat of ICE raids sparks fear, activism in Bay Area communities.” Read the story.

Johnson spoke to the newspaper days before ICE raids were expected nationwide. The actual raids on July 14 involved  fewer arrests and fewer cities than expected, reportedly because news reports had tipped off immigrant communities about what to expect.

Kevin R. Johnson is the law school’s dean, Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and professor of Chicana/o studies at UC Davis. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
