Sandy Garcia '20 awarded Peggy Browning Fund fellowship for public interest labor law

Sandy Garcia ’20 has been awarded a prestigious public interest labor law fellowship by the Peggy Browning Fund. She will spend her 10-week fellowship working at Wage Justice Center in Los Angeles.

Garcia is one of 80 fellowship recipients drawn from a pool of nearly 450 applicants nationwide. These recipients distinguished themselves by excelling in law school and demonstrating a commitment to workers’ rights. The Peggy Browning Fund is a not for-profit organization established in memory of Margaret A. Browning, a prominent union-side attorney who was a member of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) from 1994 until 1997.

As a 1L, Garcia assisted low-income workers facing workplace violations through the Workers’ Rights Clinic. This past summer, she worked as a Rural Legal Corps Fellow at Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles, where she assisted justice-involved adults facing barriers to employment. During her 2L year, Garcia is continuing her efforts on behalf of workers’ rights by participating in the Department of Fair Employment and Housing clinic/externship program.
