King Hall Negotiations Team earns a spot in National Finals of Client Counseling Competition

The King Hall Negotiations Team, represented by Carina Novell ’19 and Dina Dimirjian ’19, placed second overall in preliminary rounds in the recent ABA Regional Client Counseling Competition in Seattle. Their finish qualifies them to compete in the National Finals Competition at Baylor University in late March.

Professor Donna Shestowsky is faculty adviser for KHNT. Novell and Dimirjian also received help preparing for the competition from student coaches Ian Midiere ’19 and Karin Bailey ’19.

Due to a winter storm, Seattle University, the host school, had to end the competition after the preliminary rounds. The scores were sent for deliberation to the ABA, which decided to extend an invitation to the National Finals to the top two teams from the preliminaries.

This year’s ABA Client Counseling Competition focuses on professional responsibility. Competing law students are required to determine the legal and ethical issues their clients face and provide legal advice. In each round, a panel of judges evaluates the teams based on factors such as professionalism, ethics and teamwork.
