Keynote Address by Professor Imwinkelried to Publish in Frontiers of Law in China

A keynote address delivered by Professor Edward Imwinkelried in 2017 at the Sixth International Conference on Evidence Law and Forensic Science (ICELFS) held in Baltimore, Maryland will be published in the March 2018 issue of Frontiers of Law in China.

The title of his address was "The Form of Reform: Revisiting the Choice among a Creed, a Code, and a Catalogue." In his address, Imwinkelried explained that a creed is a statement of aspirational goals, a code is a set of flexible principles, and a catalogue prescribes detailed rules. The conventional wisdom has been that evidence reformers should favor a code. However, Professor Imwinkelried argued that unless a country relies primarily on trials as a method of legal dispute resolution, a catalogue format may be preferable--especially for doctrinal areas such as privilege law that affect primary behavior outside court. After the conference, Frontiers of Law in China invited Professor Imwinkelried to publish a version of his address.

Professor Imwinkelried is a world-renowned evidence expert who has published extensively in the field.
