Wajahat Ali ’07 Publishes Essay in New York Times

Wajahat Ali ’07 published an essay in the New York Times titled, “I Want ‘Allahu Akbar Back.” The essay was published in the wake of a terrorist attack in New York City in which the alleged perpetrator is reported to have cried “Allahu akbar”--literally "God is greatest" in Arabic--after killing eight people and injuring others. Ali's essay laments the fact that a phrase commonly used by Muslims to express gratitude has become linked to terrorism in the minds of many people. Ali is a journalist, writer, lawyer, an award-winning playwright, a TV host, and a consultant for the U.S. State Department.
