Professor Joslin Presents at ABA Section on Family Law Fall Conference
On October 10, Professor Courtney Joslin presented at the American Bar Association Section on Family Law's 2017 Fall Conference. Together with co-presenter Justice Debra Lehrmann of the Texas Supreme Court, she gave a talk, “The Modern Family: Third-Party Custody and Visitation,” that explored legal recognition of de facto or functional parents.
During the presentation, Professor Joslin and Justice Lehrmann discussed the Uniform Nonparental Child Custody and Visitation Act (UNCCVA) and the Uniform Parentage Act (2017). Justice Lehrmann is the chair of the UNCCVA drafting committee, and served as a commissioner on the drafting project. Professor Joslin was an observer on the UNCCVA project and a reporter for the Universal Parenting Act Committee.
Professor Joslin is a scholar in the field of family and relationship recognition, with a particular focus on same-sex and non-marital couples.
