Professors Elmendorf and Shanske Co-author Article for Education Week

Professor Christopher S. Elmendorf and Professor Darien Shanske have co-authored an article published in Education Week. Titled “School Improvement Hinges on Access to Student Data,” the article summarizes problems educators often face in seeking to access to data about students, including information that could help them to evaluate the success of various school programs, and asserts that “states need to devote resources to collecting the data and making it available to researchers.”

Referencing their forthcoming law review article, Elmendorf and Shanske argue that states have a legally enforceable “duty of care” with regard to education that should include “reasonable efforts to enable the assessment of how their public education systems are functioning.” Bottom of Form
