Professor Ventry Comments on Trump and IRS for McClatchy Newspapers Online
Professor Dennis Ventry commented for McClatchy Newspapers Online on the case of Renaissance Technologies, a hedge fund that allegedly owes $6.8 billion in unpaid taxes. The company’s co-CEO, Robert Mercer, was among the most generous donors to the campaign of Donald Trump, leading to speculation that the Trump administration may not pursue payment.
Ventry said he was not aware of any instance of a sitting president intervening to stop a tax audit or prosecution. Trump “has been remarkably restrained regarding the IRS,” said Ventry.
Professor Ventry is an expert in tax policy and legal ethics.
