Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye '84 Publishes Washington Post Op-ed on Immigration Raids at Courthouses

Tani Cantil-Sakauye ’84, Chief Justice of California, published an op-ed in the Washington Post  requesting that federal enforcement authorities not make immigration arrests at or near California courthouses. Immigration arrests at courthouses undermine trust in the judicial and disrupt court activities, she states.

“We encourage the vulnerable to come to our courthouses for help. But immigration arrests, or the fear of arrests at or near courthouses, disrupt court activities and the lives of those seeking justice,” Cantil-Saukaye writes. “The well-publicized immigration arrests at courthouses in Los Angeles and elsewhere have disrupted court business and deterred litigants.”
