King Hall Students Compete in ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition
On April 6-8, King Hall sent three students to compete in the 2016-17 American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Competition (NAAC) in Chicago. This was the first King Hall team to reach the NAAC finals since 2014.
Paolo Hermoso '18, Gin Smith ’18, and Rebecca Friedemann ‘18 qualified for the national competition after becoming regional champions at the NAAC Regional in San Francisco in early February. They were coached by King Hall alumnus Alex Hirsch ’14, who was a member of the last King Hall team to advance to the NAAC finals.
The 2016-17 competition focused on administrative law and Title IX. The competitors participated in a hypothetical appeal to the United States Supreme Court. The competition involved writing a brief as either respondent or petitioner and then arguing the case in front of the mock court.
