Dean Johnson Comments for Media on Trump Immigration Policies
Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented for media including the Sacramento News & Review, BYU Radio, and Pacific Standard on the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
As part of a News & Review article on deportations in the Sacramento area, Dean Johnson confirmed that “many of the immigrant detainees were being held on relatively minor charges,” as Trump has continued the Obama administration policy of focusing immigration enforcement on noncitizens in the criminal justice system.
There have been indications that the Trump administration will expand deportation efforts to include participants in Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, he added. “There is fear that DACA will be dismantled,” Johnson said.
Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
