Dean Johnson Comments for Associated Press on Supreme Court Nominee and Immigration

Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented for the Associated Press on Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorusch and how he may rule on challenges to President Trump’s executive orders on immigration should he be confirmed. The article was picked up by ABC news online and other media.

Dean Johnson said it is always difficult to predict how any judge might rule in future cases, but the national security implications of Trump’s plan might make it more likely that Gorusch would support the orders.

“When it comes to national security, courts are often deferential to the president,” he said.

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
