Dean Johnson Quoted in The New Yorker on U.S. Immigration History
Dean Kevin R. Johnson was quoted in The New Yorker on the Chinese Exclusion Act and similar exclusionary immigration laws in U.S. history.
“Our immigration laws reflect desires to exclude people who are disfavored in this country,” he said. “Special registration, extreme vetting, exclusion of Muslims, they all find some of their ideological roots in the Chinese Exclusion Act.”
Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
