Holly Cooper Comments for Politico on Legal Fight over Immigration Order
Holly S. Cooper, Co-director of the UC Davis School of Law Immigration Law Clinic, commented for Politico on the Trump administration’s challenge to a U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit order upholding the due process rights of detained immigrant minors. The Trump administration has requested a stay on the order, effectively seeking to prevent bail bond hearings for detained immigrant children and teenagers.
Cooper co-authored a response to the administration’s emergency motion, calling the government’s arguments “legally and factually specious” and comparing the motion the Trump administration’s unsuccessful defense of the president executive orders on immigration. “This is the closest analogy we have,” Cooper told Politico.
