María Blanco, UC Undocumented Legal Services Center, Featured in Sacramento Bee
María Blanco, Executive Director of the UC Undocumented Legal Services Center, was featured in a Sacramento Bee article on “Why ‘Dreamers’ at UC should feel very lucky.” The article states that “because of the center, housed at the UC Davis law school, UC students are probably the most legally protected of any undocumented young people in America” as the Trump administration prepares to increase immigration enforcement.
Launched in 2014 by the University of California Office of the President, the center operates out of UC Davis School of Law in cooperation with the Immigration Law Clinic to provide high-quality legal assistance to support the needs of undocumented and AB 540-eligible students and their families at UC campuses without law schools: UC Merced, UC San Francisco, UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, and UC Riverside.
Blanco said that it was fortunate that the center had time to become established before Trump’s election and the increased pressure and immigration services. “If we were getting off the ground now, we’d be pulled in so many different directions,” she said.
