Associate Dean Sunder Comments for Media on City of Davis and Gandhi Statue

Senior Associate Dean Madhavi Sunder commented for media including the Davis Enterprise, the Davis Vanguard, and Sacramento television stations KXTV and KTXL on plans for the City of Davis to install a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in a city park. She also contributed an entry to the School of Law's Dean's Blog on the subject.

A proposal to erect the statue, a gift from the government of India, was approved by the city in February, but some, including members of the local Sikh community, have opposed it, prompting the city to hold an additional public hearing.

In addition to her comments in the media, Dean Sunder spoke at the meeting in favor of installing the statue, saying she "could not be more proud to have this most powerful symbol of peace and non-violence stand in the Central Park of my community."

Madhavi Sunder is Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Martin Luther King, Jr. Professor of Law at King Hall whose special interests included intellectual property, law and culture studies, women's rights, and international intellectual property.
