Dean Johnson Honored with UC Award for Outstanding Faculty Leadership

Dean Kevin R. Johnson has been honored with the University of California Award for Outstanding Faculty Leadership in Presidential Initiatives, UC President Janet Napolitano announced on November 19. The award recognizes Dean Johnson's leadership in implementing Napolitano's initiative with regard to undocumented students.

Dean Johnson is a member of the President's Advisory Council on Undocumented Students. He proposed the creation of the Undocumented Student Legal Services Center, which provides support for undocumented students throughout the UC system. Hosted by UC Davis School of Law, the Center provides high-quality legal assistance to support the needs of undocumented and AB 540-eligible students and their families at UC campuses without law schools: UC Merced, UC San Francisco, UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, and UC Riverside.

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
