Professor Chin Publishes Op-ed on Supreme Court Immigration Case in Daily Journal

Professor Gabriel "Jack" Chin published an op-ed, "High court parses the mysteries of immigration law," in the November 3 edition of the Daily Journal. In the article, Professor Chin writes on Torres v. Lynch, the U.S. Supreme Court case that will decide whether a noncitizen's arson conviction is an "aggravated felony" providing grounds for removal.

"At issue in the case, at bottom, is whether the 'aggravated felony' definition will be applied broadly or narrowly," writes Chin. "As important as the category is, the aggravated felony definition in the [Immigration and Nationality Act] is not a model of clarity."

Chin writes that "predictions are impossible" regarding the Supreme Court's interpretation in this pending case.

Gabriel "Jack" Chin, who joined the King Hall faculty in 2011, is a prolific and much-cited criminal and immigration law scholar whose work has addressed many of the most pressing social issues of our time.
