Professor Frank Comments on California Supreme Court Environmental Docket for Greenwire

Professor of Environmental Practice Richard Frank commented for Greenwire on the many environmental law cases pending before the Supreme Court of California.  The Court, which normally is focused on criminal appeals, has an unprecedented 20 environmental cases on its docket, involving the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the state's efforts to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, the environmental impacts of the planned bullet train project, and other issues.

"This sudden group of CEQA cases, environmental cases in general, is noteworthy," said Frank. In an era of Congressional gridlock, "California is the proverbial laboratory, and there is a lot of interest" nationwide in the state's efforts to regulate climate change and other environmental law issues, he said.

The article, "Calif. Supreme Court takes up 'historic' environmental docket," was published by Greenwire on March 13.

Frank, a 1974 graduate of King Hall, is a leader in the field of environmental law and the founding Director of the California Environmental Law and Policy Center at UC Davis School of Law.
