Nazim CanInternational Alumni Update: Nazim Can Isiktaç,  Senior Lawyer, Responsible for Foreign Clients, Transnational Litigation and ADR at Isiktaç & Atabay

What is your favorite thing about your current work?

After working in several different fields of law, I decided I enjoy working on complex transnational matters the most. This is a challenging field that requires experience and knowledge. It is also satisfying to work in a competitive environment.

In addition to practicing as a lawyer, I also plan to work in the academic side of the International Law. For that reason, I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Private Law at Istanbul University, focusing on International Arbitration.

How does your UC Davis School of Law education make you a more effective professional?

On top of the excellent education that we got from the Law School, the diversity factor of UC Davis provided me the confidence I needed in the international business environment. I learned to work together with different cultures under different legal systems, and within different business contexts. These are skills I use every day.

What piece of advice would you give to this year's international law students?

Besides the excellent education you can get from the Law School, and the incredible research possibilities that the University of California system provides, please do not forget to enjoy the city of Davis and the rest of California whenever it is possible. Say "hi" to everyone, and make as many friends as you can. Feel safe, because both UC Davis and the city of Davis are very friendly and safe environments.

What is your favorite UC Davis memory?

It is quite hard to single out a memory that is my favorite. But I can say that all the times we spent with friends were great memories. I also enjoyed the classes I took, and, especially, the professor-student relationships.
