Dean Johnson Comments on Immigration Law and False E-mail Claim for PolitiFact

Dean Kevin R. Johnson served as an expert source for PolitiFact.com, the political fact-checking website sponsored by the Tampa Bay Times and Congressional Quarterly. In an article debunking a chain e-mail that claims Iowa Governor Terry Branstad chartered a jet to deport 100 recently arrived unaccompanied migrant children, Dean Johnson points out that "the Iowa scenario could never happen lawfully."

"Airport travel, as interstate commerce, is governed by federal law and Congress," said Dean Johnson. "State infringement on interstate commerce has repeatedly been struck down by the Supreme Court."

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
