Professors Chin, Villazor Co-author Op-ed for New York Times

Professors Gabriel "Jack" Chin and Rose Cuison Villazor have co-authored an opinion piece for "Room for Debate," a feature of the New York Times website.  Their article appears as part of a group of essays responding to the question: "Are legal apprenticeships a good way to avoid excessive law school debt and create different perspectives on the law?"

While acknowledging that the apprenticeship model is worth exploring, Chin and Villazor raise several questions and concerns regarding whether apprenticeships can offer the quality and breadth of legal education students need.

"In short, law school offers students the opportunity to work with lawyers whose main job is to help them understand and learn the law so that they can become effective and ethical lawyers," the King Hall professors write. "If the apprenticeship model offers the same opportunity at a lower cost, that would be great - but the jury is still out."
