Dean Johnson Appointed to State Bar Council on Access and Fairness

Dean Kevin R. Johnson has been appointed to the State Bar of California Council on Access and Fairness.  The organization serves as the State Bar's "diversity think tank" and advises the Board of Trustees on diversity strategies and goals. Members are expected to have a record of leadership, a working knowledge of diversity issues, and experience developing and implementing initiatives to address diversity challenges.

Dean Johnson has been a leader in advocating for diversity in the legal profession, publishing academic papers on "The Importance of Student and Faculty Diversity in Law Schools," writing on the need for law school rankings to include a faculty diversity index, and supporting programs such as the King Hall Outreach Program (KHOP), which recently was selected to receive the 2014 State Bar Education Pipeline Award. He was been named by National Jurist as one of the 25 "Most Influential in Legal Education," in part because of his status as a  "known leader in Latino civil rights and diversity among students and faculty in legal education."

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
