Professor Chin Comments on Death Penalty Ruling for National Media

Professor Gabriel "Jack" Chin commented for major media outlets on a federal judge's ruling that California's death penalty is unconstitutional. On July 16, U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney wrote that lengthy and unpredictable delays have resulted in an arbitrary and unfair capital punishment system.

Professor Chin told the Associated Press that "every state with a significant death row has the problem of cases taking a long time." Chin predicts a long appeals process ahead and expects the case will reach the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Associated Press article appeared in several major news outlets including USA Today and ABCnews.com. Professor Chin also commented on the ruling for Sacramento's NPR affiliate Capital Public Radio and the Gil Gross Show on Talk 910 AM.

Gabriel "Jack" Chin, who joined the King Hall faculty in 2011, is a prolific and much-cited criminal and immigration law scholar whose work has addressed many of the most pressing social issues of our time.
