Dean Johnson Interviewed on Immigration Reform by Minnesota Public Radio
Dean Kevin R. Johnson was interviewed by Minnesota Public Radio for a report on immigration policy and how recent court decisions may affect the prospects for comprehensive reform.
Speaking on a segment of the MPR program The Daily Circuit, Dean Johnson explained the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Scialabba v. Cuellar de Osorio, which held that "aged out" children -- undocumented immigrants who apply for citizenship as minors but do not receive approval prior to turning 21 -- may not be given special priority when re-applying as adults. He also spoke on per country immigration quotas and other factors that cause delays in the naturalization process, the legislative efforts to establish a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who serve in the U.S. military, and factors underlying undocumented immigration in the United States.
Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
