John A. Pérez, Speaker of the California State Assembly, will deliver the Commencement Address at the Class of 2014 Commencement Ceremony held May 16 at the UC Davis Mondavi Center for Performing Arts.
Speaker Pérez, a Democrat from Los Angeles, was first elected to the Assembly in 2008 and sworn-in as Assembly Speaker in March 2010. The first openly gay person to be elected to the position of Assembly Speaker in the country, Speaker Pérez has been a longtime leader in fighting for social justice and full equality.
Also delivering remarks at the Commencement Ceremony will be faculty speaker Professor David Horton and student speaker Irene Williams '14. The School of Law will award 174 Juris Doctorate and 53 LL.M. degrees at the event.
Attendance at the ceremony is limited to ticketed guests of the Class of 2014, but the event may be viewed via a live webcast at http://commencementvideo.ucdavis.edu/ starting at 3:30 pm on May 16.
