King Hall Veterans Association Hosts Awards Ceremony
The King Hall Veterans Association hosted the first KHVA Awards reception and ceremony on April 26 at UC Davis School of Law. The event featured an outstanding turnout of King Hall veterans, alumni, and faculty, and the presentation of the inaugural Professor Gary D. Solis Veterans Service Award.
Named for Gary Solis '71, a veteran and an internationally recognized expert in the law of war, the Solis Award was established to recognize a student, staff/faculty member, administrator, alum or community member for service to the King Hall veterans community. Professor Solis travelled from his home in the Washington, D.C. area to attend the ceremony and to present the award to Michael Van Derwood '14.
The ceremony also recognized the contributions and accomplishments of Justin Lee '15, Claire White '15, Rebecca Ferguson '15, Steven Suchil '80, and Clayton Tanaka, Director of Legal Writing, with a Certificate of Commendation. As is typical for service members leaving a unit, the KHVA also presented graduating members with a Letter of Appreciation.
Faculty in attendance included Dean Kevin R. Johnson, Professor Edward Imwinkelried, and Visiting Professor William Wiecek. In addition to Solis, alumni in attendance included Steven Suchil '80 and Robert Barton '88.
