Professor Chander Speaks on Al Jazeera Television on European Union Internet Proposal

Professor Anupam Chander spoke live on Al Jazeera English television's primetime show, America Tonight, commenting on German Chancellor Angela Merkel's recent proposal that the European Union establish a separate Internet infrastructure to keep European information within Europe.

Professor Chander criticized the proposal as likely to be ineffective at curtailing foreign surveillance and likely to harm Internet freedom. Professor Chander is currently working with Uyen P. Le '11, the Free Speech and Technology Fellow with the California International Law Center at King Hall (CILC), on an article on the subject titled "Breaking the Web: Data Localization vs. the Global Internet."

Professor Anupam Chander is a leading scholar in the law of globalization and digitization, and has written widely on international law and cyber law.  He is also Director of the California International Law Center at King Hall.
