Miles Prince '14 and Steven Vong '16 Win 2013 Carr Competition

Carr Winners and Professor DeSantisThe team of Miles Prince '14 and Steven Vong  '16 won the 2013 Frances Carr Competition held at UC Davis School of Law on November 2.  In an exciting final round, Prince and Vong prevailed over Kevin Dubrall '15 and Samantha Gavin '15.

In the annual competition, named for the late Judge Frances Carr, the first female Sacramento County Superior Court judge, King Hall students participate in four rounds of mock trials presided over by local judges and critiqued by legal professionals. The intra-school competition is presented each year by the UC Davis School of Law Trial Practice Honors Board.

This year's highly successful competition involved 40 student teams competing before distinguished attorneys and judges including U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Judge Consuelo Maria Callahan. About half of the first-year Class of 2016 served as witnesses. The preliminary rounds were held at the Federal Courthouse on October 26, and featured opening remarks from Dean Kevin R. Johnson.  Quarter finals were held at King Hall on October 30. The November 2 semifinal rounds were presided over the Sacramento Superior Court Judge Thadd A. Blizzard and Solano County Superior Court Judge Tim Kam.  Yolo Superior Court Judge Timothy L. Fall presided over the final round, aided by Scoring Judges Camil Skipper '94 and Thomas Maxwell '13.
