Dean Johnson Comments for Media on New UC President

Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented on the appointment of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano as President of the University of California for media including KCRA-TV, the San Jose Mercury News, and the Daily Democrat. The former Arizona governor and attorney general will be UC's first female president.

"I hadn't anticipated this, but it makes a lot of sense," Dean Johnson told the Daily Democrat. "She's certainly skilled at navigating challenging and divisive political waters. Having a leader who works well with the legislators and the regents is going to be critically important."

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
