Associate Dean Amar Comments for Associated Press on Prop. 8 and California Supreme Court

Associate Dean and Professor of Law Vikram Amar commented for the Associated Press on the efforts of Proposition 8 proponents ProtectMarriage to petition the California Supreme Court to halt same-sex marriages in the state. Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that ProtectMarriage lacked standing to challenge a district court ruling invalidating Prop. 8, enabling same-sex marriage to resume in California.

Amar said that given the federal trial court order on the books, it is unlikely the petition will succeed.  "My guess is that the California Supreme Court will not be eager to wade into this because so much of this turns on federal questions," he said.
