King Hall Hosts Successful Admitted Students Weekend

UC Davis School of Law hosted a highly successful Admitted Students Weekend April 12-13, bringing more than 70 students from about three dozen universities around the United States and abroad together with King Hall faculty, students, alumni, and staff for a series of receptions, roundtable discussions, and informational sessions.

Admitted Students Weekend activities began with a reception at the offices of Boutin Jones in Sacramento on the evening of April 12.  The event included remarks from Dean Kevin R. Johnson, Steve Boutin '72, past president and current member of the Alumni Board of Directors and a founding partner at Boutin Jones, and Kimberly Lucia '09, Alumni Board member and an associate at Boutin Jones. Also in attendance was Gage Dungy '03, a partner at Liebert Cassidy Whitmore and president-elect of the Alumni Board.

The following day, the Law School hosted an Open House for Admitted Students at King Hall, featuring a series of panel discussions and information sessions.  The event included welcoming remarks from Dean Johnson, Assistant Dean for Admission & Enrollment Sharon Pinkney, and Law Students Association President Nima Rahimi '13.  The morning presentations continued as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Law Vikram Amar spoke on first-year curriculum. Assistant Dean for Career Services Craig Compton, Reference Librarian Peg Durkin, students Wendy Guo '13 and John Melis '14 (subbing for Director of Academic Success Chris Ide-Don), and Financial Aid Director Lawrence Gallardo spoke about student support services available at King Hall.  

Also presented were panel discussions, including an afternoon roundtable on Student Life hosted by Rahimi and a session on Careers in Law hosted by Compton.  California Environmental Law and Policy Center Fellow Miles Hogan '12, Pearl Khan '13, and Associate Director of Career Services and Public Interest Career Planning Kirsten Hill '04 hosted an informational discussion on Public Interest Law, and Professors Angela Harris, Lisa Ikemoto '87, and Dennis J. Ventry, Jr. spoke as part of a faculty panel.

Further activities included a lunch attended by representatives of various campus housing groups, walking tours of the UC Davis campus, tours of King Hall, and a closing reception with representatives from numerous student organizations.
