Margeaux Pelusi '14 and Marcus Tang '14 Win Grant of Asylum for Immigration Clinic Client
Margeaux Pelusi '14 and Marcus Tang '14 have secured a grant of asylum on behalf of a UC Davis School of Law Immigration Law Clinic client who had been held in immigration detention since August 2012.
The case presented complex legal issues, said Immigration Law Clinic Supervising Attorney Raha Jorjani, and was further complicated by the client's mental health problems. The students persevered, filing two separate applications for relief with two different agencies, one substantive motion, multiple procedural motions, and two indexes of documents in support of relief applications. Their hard work was vindicated when an immigration judge issued a grant of asylum on January 28, and the client was released the next day.
"It was truly a pleasure to work with such an effective, committed, and compassionate team," Jorjani said.
