Professor Afsharipour Speaks on Corporate Law and Governance in Mumbai

Professor Afra Afsharipour spoke on corporate law and governance in two presentations in Mumbai, India in May.

One May 25, she presented a talk on the "Evolving Role of Independent Directors" at a seminar on "Independent Directors: Issues and Challenges" held at Taj Lands End Hotel.  The seminar was hosted by the National Stock Exchange of India and the Securities and Exchange Board of India and attended by independent directors, investors, and company secretaries from some of India's leading firms.

Professor Afsharipour also delivered a lecture entitled "Law and the Evolution of Outbound Acquisitions by Indian Firms" on May 28 at the National Stock Exchange of India. The lecture was followed by a panel discussion with leading experts on mergers and acquisitions in India. In addition to Professor Afsharipour, the panelists included Cyril Shroff, managing partner of Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co., India's largest law firm; Sandip Bhagat, founding partner of S&R Associates, a leading Indian law firm; D. Muthukumaran, head of Group Corporate Finance at the Aditya Birla Group, one of India's largest conglomerates; and V.S. Sundaresan, Chief General Manager at the Securities and Exchange Board of India. 

Professor Afsharipour's areas of research include comparative corporate law and governance, mergers and acquisitions, and transactional law.  Her scholarship has appeared in numerous law reviews, including the Columbia Law Review, the Minnesota Law Review, the Vanderbilt Law Review, and the UC Davis Law Review
