Jon M. Sands '84 Reappointed as Arizona Federal Public Defender

Jon M. Sands '84 has been reappointed for another four-year term as Arizona's Federal Public Defender, Chief Judge Alex Kozinski of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has announced.

Sands was reappointed to a third term, effective September 1, 2012. He oversees attorneys and support staff working in Flagstaff, Phoenix, Tucson, and Yuma.  Sands joined the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Arizona in 1987 and was promoted to a supervisory attorney in 1994. He was first appointed to lead the office in 2004 and reappointed in 2008. While in law school, he earned two scholarship awards, served as editor-in-chief of UC Davis Law Review, and was a member of Order of the Coif. He clerked for Circuit Judge Mary M. Schroeder from 1984 to 1985.
