Professor Hunt Comments for Washington Post on Federal Deficit

Professor John P. Hunt commented for the Washington Post on the possible downgrading of the United States' credit rating by the nation's major credit rating companies in light of rising national debt.  Though some companies have threatened to downgrade, Professor Hunt said they would be unlikely to follow through.

"It could cause a lot of economic damage," said Hunt. "I'd be surprised, because they are aware of these potential consequences and they don't want to blamed for them."

Professor Hunt's primary area of scholarly interest is the regulation of financial markets and institutions, including the role of credit-rating agencies in capital regulation and potential changes to their regulation that could mitigate the effects of financial bubbles.
