Give to the King Hall Annual Fund and Support Today’s Students!

Xochitl LopezWith tuition now more than $41,000 per year, today's UC Davis School of Law students face financial challenges well beyond those of previous generations.  Your gift to the King Hall Annual Fund supports the student scholarships that help keep the dream of a King Hall education alive for deserving students of all social and economic backgrounds.  Just ask Xochitl Lopez '12.

As a student at Sacramento State, Lopez worked with the United Autoworkers Union, where she discovered her passion for community organizing and "our collective ability to make changes to improve our lives."  Inspired to work for social change, she knew that a law degree from King Hall could help empower her to make a difference in her community, but rising fees threatened to put her dream on hold.

Thanks to the generous support of the King Hall community, the Law School was able to establish the Cruz and Jeannene Reynoso Scholarship for Legal Access to help students with financial needs.  Lopez became the Law School's first Reynoso scholar.

"I feel honored to have received a scholarship created in the name of Cruz Reynoso, a person with great legal and political stature, who has achieved and continues to achieve great change," she said.  "It is very helpful to have $5,000 fewer to borrow this year.  It's also very validating to have received this scholarship. It helps me to believe that I belong here."

Over the course of the 2009-10 academic year, support for the King Hall Annual Fund enabled the Law School to fund scholarships for more than two dozen students, significantly easing the financial burden of their legal educations.  With King Hall now receiving less than one-quarter of its funding from the state, and with student tuition higher than ever, alumni support for the Annual Fund is critical to the Law School's efforts to continue to attract the best and brightest students and its mission to offer the best in public legal education to deserving students of all social and economic background.

Alumni donations to the King Hall Annual Fund  support students, many of whom otherwise would not be able to afford a legal education, and enable the School of Law to support student organizations, build on our academic strength, and bolster the Law School's reputation in many, many ways.  Please consider making a gift to the Annual Fund today!
