Dean Johnson Comments on Immigration for Belfast Telegraph

Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented on U.S. immigration policy for an article in the Belfast Telegraph examining Arizona's immigration law and the potential impacts of immigration reform proposals under consideration in Congress.

Dean Johnson commented that the Arizona law is "pretty consistent with a long history of anti-immigrant hysteria" that has flared up periodically over the course of U.S. history.

"We have 10 to 12 million undocumented immigrants living in this society," he said. "That hasn't changed much, despite the hysteria, despite the enforcements increase. It's unlikely to change significantly in the short-term."

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
