Dean Johnson Comments on Kagan Nomination for Media Including NPR

Dean Kevin R. Johnson commented on Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan for media including the syndicated radio program "Keep Hope Alive" hosted by the Reverend Jesse Jackson, National Public Radio's "Tell Me More" hosted by Michel Martin, and Sirius XM Radio's "Across the Nation with Bob Dunning," hosted by King Hall alumnus Bob Dunning '73.

In the "Tell Me More" interview, Dean Johnson addressed reservations that have been expressed about Kagan, including criticism that she lacks experience as a judge.   "We have a Supreme Court that's composed almost exclusively, if not exclusively, of previous court of appeals judges," said Dean Johnson. "I think that the President wanted to move away from that, bring some fresh perspective, and bring some perspective from the world outside the judiciary. And I think Elena Kagan is an important move in that direction."

Kevin R. Johnson is Dean and Mabie-Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and Chicana/o studies at UC Davis School of Law. He is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law, and civil rights.
