Honorable Joan K. Irion '79 to Serve as NAWJ Finance Chair

The Honorable Joan K. Irion '79 of the 4th District Court of Appeals has been appointed as finance chairwoman of the National Association of Women Judges (NAWJ), a nonprofit devoted to providing access to justice and promoting gender equity.

Justice Irion's appointment was the subject of an article in Insurance Day, in which she commented on her role in overseeing NAWJ fiscal priorities.  "With every nonprofit, you always want to be able to do more," she said. "The most important thing is to help ensure that we can do programs essential to the development of justice, to make sure that when there are projects that need to be addressed, there is money there to do it."

Justice Irion was appointed to the 4th District Court of Appeal by Governor Gray Davis in September 2003. Before that, she served as a San Diego Superior Court judge, worked as a civil litigator, and was a shareholder in the firm of Heller, Ehrman, White and McAuliffe.
