Professor Karima Bennoune will deliver a guest lecture in the Department of Middle East/South Asia Studies at UC Davis. The public lecture is titled, "Sidi Bouzid Blues and the Green Wave: Journeys through the Arab Spring and Fall."
Bennoune is author of the recent book "Your Fatwa Does Not Apply Here: Untold Stories from the Fight Against Muslim Fundamentalism." Based on nearly 300 interviews with people from almost 30 Muslim majority countries, including Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia, the book recounts the struggles of human rights defenders who have challenged fundamentalism. Her talk will be drawn from this research, and from her follow-up work in North Africa during 2013.
This lecture series was made possible through the generous donations to the Middle East/South Asia Studies Program by Faris Saeed. This lecture series launches the development of Arab Studies within the Middle East/South Asia Studies Program at UC Davis. Also co-sponsored by Women and Gender Studies.
