"Hot Cases in Health Law" featuring Abbie P. Maliniak, Esq.

Thursday, November 7

Kalmanovitz Appellate Courtroom, King Hall room 1001
4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

The King Hall Health Law Association presents "Hot Cases in Health Law" featuring Abbie P. Maliniak, Esq.

Each year there are changes in the landscape of health care law that are critical to those who practice in the field.  Some of those changes are statutory but many come through the court system, whether from the California Supreme Court or the myriad California Courts of Appeal.  Many come from the Federal Courts as well.  Although health care practitioners try to keep up with the ever-changing laws, it is difficult as best.

The presentation will bring together an overview of the key legal decisions that have impacted health care in California this year.  Ms. Maliniak will explain not only the holdings in the cases, but the background of the substantive areas of law and how the current changes do or do not follow the natural progression of the protections offered to date.

Abbie P. Maliniak is a partner at Fenton Nelson and co-chairs the firm's litigation group.  Ms. Maliniak has represented healthcare providers and medical staffs in civil litigation in state and federal courts, in arbitrations and mediations, and has successfully argued cases before state appellate and supreme courts. She also handles a broad range of administrative and regulatory hearings, including peer review, fair hearing practices, licensing board matters, and matters involving allegations of fraud and abuse.  In addition to her litigation practice, Ms. Maliniak counsels clients on a variety of operational issues relating to health-care providers, such as medical staff bylaws, credentialing of practitioners, compliance with both federal and state privacy laws and self-governance issues.

MCLE will be offered.

Reception to follow.
