California Courts End Several Statewide Emergency Orders
Posted Jun 16, 2020
Effective June 20, the Judicial Council of California voted to rescind the temporary bail schedule, instituted in response to COVID-19, which set presumptive bail at $0 for people accused of lower-level crimes. The Chief Justice has also rescinded the statewide order extending time for defendants to be arraigned beyond 48 hours. The Judicial Council noted it may re-institute the orders if health conditions worsen or change and suggested county courts could keep the emergency bail schedule or reduce bail schedules where appropriate.
