State Senator Introduces Bill Allowing for California Takeover of PG&E
Posted Feb 5, 2020
California State Senator Scott Wiener has introduced a bill that would give the state control over the gas and electric operations of Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E). The idea gained a great deal of traction following a number of destructive wildfires in California that were caused by PG&E power lines, as well as recent blackouts imposed by PG&E to reduce the risk of further wildfires. PG&E filed for bankruptcy in January 2019. See NBC, San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times.
