In-house Lawyers Call on Firms to Improve Diversity

Posted Feb 5, 2019

The ABA Journal reports that over 170 in-house counsel have signed an open letter to law firm partners expressing disappointment in the lack of diversity in partnership classes. The letter, posted by American Lawyer, states that committing to diversity is not enough; firms “must consciously and personally invest in diversity and inclusion and interview, hire, mentor, support, sponsor, and promote talented attorneys who don’t always look like you or share your background.” According to the New York Times, an image posted on LinkedIn of the new partner class at the law firm Paul, Weiss prompted the discussions that led to the letter.
