Executive Order Eases Restrictions on Religious Participation in Politics

President Trump signed EO13796, “Presidential Executive Order Promoting Free Speech and Religious Liberty” which directs the Treasury Department not to take adverse action against religious individuals or organizations for speaking “about moral or political issues from a religious perspective, where speech of similar character has, consistent with law, not ordinarily been treated as participation or intervention in a political campaign”. It also asks the Secretaries of Labor, Treasury and HHS to consider issuing amended regulations to address conscience-based objections to the preventive-care mandate.
